Contour Thread Lifts

What can be expected ?

Dr Ayham Al Ayoubi explains that you need to keep your feet grounded and be realistic when it comes to the expectation from a contour Thread lift. Despite the many great things that a thread lift can accomplish, you must also keep in mind that the procedure has its limitations. Most of the patients that go through thread lift surgery are pleased with the outcome. They have greater self-confidence and greater self-esteem. You will have a totally natural look and you will look more refreshed and younger.

Step by step Contour Threadlifts

Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi explains that a Contour Thread Lift uses extremely fine surgical sutures to lift and support the droopy areas of the face, brow and neck. The Contour threads have tiny barbs that grasp on to and lift the soft tissues.

The threads are inserted in position by the surgeon and once in place, the tiny barbs are gently opened which then lifts and repositions the underlying facial tissue into a more vertical and youthful position. The end of the thread is then cut and knotted, allowing it to retract deep under the skin.

The threads then remain under the skin to provide structure and support. They cannot be seen or felt by the patient once they are in place.

Contour Threads have tiny barbs that are spaced evenly apart. Once inserted under the skin, they are fixated with tension that creates a suspension effect that gently lifts the sagging tissue.

They are inserted via a tiny incision behind the hairline so there are no visible scars They cannot be felt and are clear so that they are not visible once in position. Once they are in place, your body will generate its own collagen which will maintain the lifting effect.

Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi explains that the procedure usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes to complete, depending on the number of threads used. Patients are able to go home soon after the procedure.

Recovery after Contour Threadlifts

Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi explains that patients may experience numbness and mild swelling but any discomfort should be minimal and easily controlled by medication. Post operatively there could be bruising and slight swelling, which usually settles in a few days.

Recovery is generally quick, with most patients returning to work the next day or after a few days rest.

You may find that your facial movement is limited for the first two weeks and it may hurt to laugh or smile.

Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi explains that although not as invasive as other lifting procedures, the area treated will often be sore with some swelling or puffiness for a few days, with possibly bruising which will last about a week.

Side effects and risks are minimal and rare but may include:

An allergic reaction to the anesthetic.

A risk of small hematomas or seromas (collections of blood under the skin) occurring.

Mild infection at the site of the thread insertion,

In the case of barbed threads, the thread end may work its way out of the entrance to the skin; this is remedied by your surgeon simply trimming the protruding end. Do not attempt to re-insert the thread yourself, as this may possibly result in an infection.

Patients may develop a pucker, this can again be remedied by your surgeon lightly massaging the area. Do not attempt to do this yourself.

In a very small number of individuals, the threads do not work as satisfactorily or for as long as usual.

Dislodging of the thread may occur (usually with free floating threads) resulting in a lopsided or crooked result (asymmetry).

Although rare, as the threads are placed deep into the skin's underlying tissue, it is occasionally possible for patients to either see or feel the barbed threads on the face, resulting in a telltale line (sometimes blue); in this case your surgeon will remove and replace them.

Scarring from the insertion of the needle is minimal but is nonetheless possible, particularly in patients with dark coloured skin, and all patients are advised to wear full sun block on their face to avoid direct sunlight exposure on the areas which may scar.

Because with a thread lift there is no removal of redundant skin, as with a surgical facelift, there may be slight imperfections in the achieved results depending on your skin laxity; i.e. slight rippling or bunching of the skin post lift. This can settle with time and is usually hidden into the hairline, the neck or behind the ears by the practitioner, where it is not usually going to be noticed.
