She is universally considered one of Hollywood\u2019s most beautiful actresses, but Cameron Diaz was almost unrecognisable stepping out on the set of her new movie last week. With a swollen face, the 38-year-old star\u2019s famous cherry grin and fabulous cheekbones were nowhere to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insiders say that like most celebs she\u2019s determined to stay looking young and sexy, but her strangely plump face suggests she\u2019s fallen victim to the \u2018pillow face\u2019 look, a cosmetic procedure popular with the Hollywood A-List, where fillers are used to give the appearance of high cheekbones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A source said: \u2018\u2019 Her face looked very different. Cameron usually has such a glow about her and such a gorgeous big smile. But on set her face looked very bloated and swollen and her cheeks looked much more pronounced.\u2019\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dermal filler:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi, Facial Plastic and Laser Surgeon from London Medical and Aesthetic Clinic, explained: \u2018\u2019In my opinion, based on experience and those pictures, it looks as if Cameron underwent a\u00a0dermal filler<\/a>\u00a0injected into the cheeks \u2013 most likely hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps add volume and hydration.\u2019\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So why does it look as though her face has somewhat sagged? \u2018\u2019In my view it wasn\u2019t injected high enough on her cheekbones,\u2019\u2019 says Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi. \u2018\u2019It looks as if her face has slightly dropped and it has deepened her nasolabial fold [the two creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s likely they put too much in.\u2019\u2019Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi has seen similar case where fillers have been injected too low in the cheeks. He added: \u2018\u2019This is very common treatment , but in this instance it look as if they haven\u2019t injected the acid correctly , making her face look puffy and actually older than she looked before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the unfortunate side effects when you put large amount of hyaluronic acid or dermal filler in the wrong part of face. Thankfully, the effect shouldn\u2019t last too long \u2013 her face should be back to normal within a few months.\u2019\u2019 The treatment costs up to \u00a3800 in the UK, depending on the type of filler used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s usually a one-off session, lasting no more than 30 minutes, giving instant results with no scars or bandages. If Cameron has indeed had the procedure, it\u2019s rare for patients face to seemingly \u2018drop\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi says if the treatment was done properly, patients can go back to work straight after. Thankfully, if Cameron wanted to reverse the procedure, Dr Al-Ayoubi says it\u2019s possible: \u2018\u2019If Cameron came to my clinic, I would firstly try to sort out the prominence of her cheeks,\u2019\u2019 he says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
