Stem Cell Therapy

The aesthetic industry has progressed tremendously in the last few years. One such aspect is stem cells, which are able of extensive self-renewal and expansion as well as have the potential to differentiate into any somatic tissue. Therefore, they can be adopted in regenerative medicine, reconstructive surgery and tissue bioengineering.

We are proud to be the advance clinic in Stem Cell therapy in the UK and Europe.  Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi is a leading Facial Plastic and Laser Surgeon, and he is an internationally recognized pioneer in the use of Stem Cell therapy and Skin rejuvenation procedures.

Stem Cells Use

Stem cells are unique because they can turn into any other cell in the body. This exceptional quality makes stem cells the ideal building blocks for repairing and regenerating damaged and aging tissues and organs.

Stem cells regenerate damaged tissue in the body. They are undifferentiated cells that can develop into specialized cells, in some cases replacing damaged tissue to promote healing. These qualities make them a completely natural, effective healing solution for a variety of health problems and cosmetic concerns.

Among the benefits of Stem Cell therapy for rejuvenation are:

  • Better skin tone and texture
  • Protection for damaged skin
  • Regenerate tissues and organs
  • Slowing down the aging process
  • Diminish wrinkles
  • Remove dark circles under eyes
  • More energy
  • Skin elasticity
  • Glowing skin

Stem Cells Therapy Suitability

Stem Cell treatment against wrinkles creates more natural looking results than treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers because body normally re-accepts its own cells without any side effects. The treatment helps to fill in fine lines and repair damaged skin.

They have been shown to hold several significant therapeutic impacts:

♣    Regulation of inflammation as well as immune processes

♣    Suppression of apoptosis – programmed cell death

♣    Activation of resident stem cells

♣    Provoke angiogenesis – development of new blood vessels and thus leading to a better blood supply

♣    Promote neurogenesis – development of new nervous tissue

♣    Neuroprotection

♣    Antioxidation

Stem cells have the power to differentiate into any cell type, all the way from bone cells to brain cells, heart cells, nerve cells, kidney cells, and many more. However, this ability is not what determines their healing powers, as not all stem cell types can transform into any cell type. Only a selected few, such a Bone Marrow (BMC) and Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs), have been identified to differentiate into most cells type and have been successfully used in medicine to treat various conditions.

Stem cells have four main characteristics, they:

  • Mobilise during angiogenesis
  • Differentiate into specialised cell types
  • Proliferate and regenerate
  • Release immune regulators and growth factors

Therefore, stem cell treatment is recommended

  • To address fine lines and wrinkles
  • As a non-surgical alternative to a facelift

How does Stem Cells work?

Stem cell treatments require extracting the fat with a small amount of liposuction, usually fat from the abdomen. It is then treated in a laboratory to isolate the stem cells and then re-injected to create more volume in specific areas of the body. The injected fat adds volume, while the stem cells are responsible for the creation of new blood cells which prevent the fat from being absorbed and thus making sure the results are longer lasting.

By injecting the fat into the areas which have damaged skin or little fat, the treatment can be used as a non-surgical facelift creating additional volume as well as younger and fresher look.

Stem cells are pluripotent – immature cells proficient of giving rise to numerous different cell types and developing into every type of cell within the body.  Their origin classifies each type of stem cell in the body, and their potency to convert into different cell classes.

– Pluripotent stem cells can differentiate themselves into any cell type of body.

– Multipotent stem cells can transform into many cell types.

– Oligopotent stem cells are only able to differentiate themselves into few cell types.

– Unipotent stem cells can transform into one cell type.

In general, stem cells are responsible for keeping the organs healthy, however with natural ageing their number reduces, and their effect on different organ systems and tissues starts to decline.

How is Stem Cell therapy performed?

The patient is provided with general or local anesthesia so that the surgeon can perform the mini-liposuction on the area with an adequate volume of fat, such as the abdomen. With the help of liposuction tube, a small amount of fat is collected and sent for treatment in the laboratory.

The amount of fat taken and the duration of the procedure differs from standard liposuction because just a small amount of fat is required. Some patients may choose to undergo regular liposuction at the same time, meaning the procedure will be performed under general anesthetic and will take longer. Dr Ayoubi can efficiently harness stem cells from fat that is removed by liposuction.

Typically, the stem cells are isolated from the body fat with the help of enzymes in the laboratory.  In our clinic, advanced harvesting and processing techniques allow us to leave the stem cells off the fat without the use of enzymes. Afterward, using a syringe, it is injected back into the body tissue to the area where it is needed. Dr Ayoubi is one of only a few surgeons offering this stem cell treatment worldwide.

The whole process described above, the stem cells extracted (via liposuction), isolated, and then re-injected into the target area is performed while the patient is under general anesthetic, in one session.  In case a local anesthetic is used, the stem cells are treated in the lab while the patient dresses, and then cells are injected into the area of treatment.
