Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi, a leading facial plastic surgeon at the London Medical & Aesthetic Clinic has warned about the trend of young girls using a plastic bottle to add volume to their lips to emulate Kylie Jenner’s famous pout.
Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi says it can lead to several side effects, and in the worst case, it could lead to serious facial infection. He says: “The lips are in the ‘dangerous triangle’ of the face. This is the area from the bridge of your nose to the corners of your mouth. This is an area where drainage comes from the brain. The veins not only drain from the brain but can drain back so any infection in that area, especially on the upper lip, could have serious implications to your health.”
This could also lead to horrific injuries with oedema and bruising. Moreover, a possible breakage of the glass item could lead to a cut in the lips and around the mouth with very serious complications.
Aside from this, there may be long-term side effects that can occur when a vacuum such as this is applied to the lips. It can cause bleeding which can leave behind scars which, when the blood dissolves, can leave small lumps or uneven lips.
Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi says: “If you are really unhappy with your lips and feel that you want some help, seek professional help. There are products on the market that can help achieve a temporary boost to lip volume, and if you are really sure about it, you can safely achieve fuller lips with lip fillers. However, in the UK, you must be over 18 and make sure you find out all the facts and find the right cosmetic doctor to do the procedure.”
