Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the UK. Our leading experts Consultants breast Surgeons can help our patients to achieve the shape and results they desire.

For breast augmentation, our patients can expect a surgery that involves placement of a natural-feeling synthetic implant in the tissue beneath the breast.

Indications

The breasts may have lost fullness over time, or they may have always been underdeveloped. Breast Augmentation can help in the correction of asymmetrical breasts, where one breast is larger than the other, and re-shaping of non-standard breast forms.

Breast enlargement with saline breast implants or silicone breast implants is performed on women who experience dissatisfaction with the size, shape and fullness of their breasts.

Breast enlargement surgery – commonly known as a breast implant involves surgically inserting breast implants underneath the natural tissue to make the breasts permanently larger, firmer and full.

The enhancement of physical appearance can have immeasurable positive psychological benefits for a woman in terms of confidence and self-esteem.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation is usually performed under a general anesthesia at the Hospital, as an over night stay. Several different methods are used for placement of the breast implants.

An incision can be made in….

  • The crease of the lower part of the breast
  • Along the lower half of the dark skin around the nipple
  • In the armpit

All of these methods are designed to result in minimal scarring so that the incisions are not easily detected. Working through the incision, the surgeon will lift the breast tissue and skin to create a pocket, either directly behind the breast tissue or underneath the chest wall muscle.

The implants are then centered beneath the nipples and adjusted to ideal size and symmetry before the incision is sutured closed.

The method of inserting and positioning the breast implant will depend on the anatomy and the plastic surgeon’s recommendation. Placement behind the muscle however, may be more painful for a few days after surgery than placement directly under the breast tissue. The surgery takes approximately one hour to perform.

Special Instruction

The decision to undergo breast augmentation surgery should be a personal one and not to please someone else. As with any cosmetic procedure, breast augmentation will not resolve any of life’s major problems, but may help to boost a patient’s own body image and self-esteem.

All the potential benefits will be discussed and assessed at the time of the consultation with one of our leading consultant breast plastic surgeons.
