Lanluma Face

We pride ourselves to be the very first clinic to introduce the revolutionary aesthetic product Lanluma, the ultimate collagen stimulation product for facial volumization and skin rejuvenation by Mr Ayham Al-Ayoubi into the UK in 2018.

Lanluma is a poly-L-lactic acid natural product which is able to increase volume in depressed areas of the face, correct skin depressions, smooth out and soften deep lines and wrinkles. The unique Lanluma treatment also creates facial volumisation, and enhances hollow areas of the face with natural looking results lasting up to 2–5 years.

Lanluma treatment works in a totally different way to traditional dermal fillers, as it is a distinctive collagen treatment, which reduces lines, wrinkles and folds in a gradual and subtle way. By helping to replenish the body’s own facial collagen and restore lost volume, it can give a fuller face with gradual, natural looking results.

Lanluma Face Use

Lanluma is essentially a subtle approach to achieving a younger looking appearance of the face. Many celebrities who have denied having surgery are likely to have used the treatment in order to achieve a youthful, natural look.

There are two Lanluma products, Lanluma “V” which can be used for the hands and face, and Lanluma “X” which is formulated for larger body areas but not generally used in facial treatment.

The primary component of Lanluma is lactic acid, which has been safely and successfully used in aesthetic medicine for over 30 years. Examples of which range from acting as a medium for medication to being used in bone plates and screws in surgery.

Lanluma is considered to be the best and most effective treatment for facial atrophy, loss of soft tissue and fat in the face and to restore fat which has been lost due to extrinsic and intrinsic ageing, in a safe way.

It can also be used to treat scars; however, Lanluma is generally used to treat lines, sagging jaws, and wrinkles on the hands, wrinkles of décolletage and hollow cheeks or temples. It acts to volumize certain areas of the face through the stimulation of deep tissue. It should not be injected intradermally.

More advanced areas include infraorbital regions and lateral brow. Creative uses have been reported in the treatment of acne, deep acne scarring and varicella scars, chest wall, prominent facial asymmetry and the dorsum of the hands.

Lanluma differs from other dermal fillers due to its nature of stimulating collagen. Other dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid simply replace the loss of volume, while Lanluma encourages the body to naturally replace the collagen which has been lost due to age or trauma.

The product is distinctively unique to other treatments because it progressively and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles, creating a more refined and youthful looking appearance. It can also be used for treating scars, facial asymmetry and ageing hands. Nevertheless, it requires a special understanding of how it works, where it can be used, and how it should be injected.

Lanluma works within the deep dermis, reinforcing the structure of the skin. The aesthetic treatment helps to replace lost collagen, thus creating a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness of shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds that have been depleted over time.

Facial skin texture, wrinkles and dimpling can also be improved with Lanluma, as the product helps to correct indentations and loss of elasticity through encouraging collagen regeneration.

The nature of Lanluma treatment means that results vary between patients and last for varying lengths of time. Patients can expect results to last from between two to five years.

A recent research showed that 41% of people considering cosmetic treatments stated that their top concern was having an unnatural appearance.

Lanluma Suitability

Lanluma is a treatment option for both men and women of various ages who wish to improve the appearance of sunken cheeks, deep wrinkles, deep folds around the mouth and nose, facial asymmetry, facial scars, deep acne scars, and loose or sagging facial skin.

Lanluma is a poly-L-lactic acid product which is a natural compound suitable for increasing the volume of depressed areas, particularly to correct skin depressions in the face and restore youthful contours that have been lost due to intrinsic or extrinsic ageing.

It is against this backdrop that a new bio-stimulating dermal filler for the face has been specifically formulated to reshape and recontour the facial structure. It can be used to treat the cheeks, temples, chin, jawline, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and signs of ageing in the lower and mid-face. It can also be used to reduce the signs of facial asymmetry, acne scarring, and wrinkles.

Lanluma can also be used to add volume to the face to compensate for age-related tissue and bone loss which causes lines and sagging. This treatment allows patients to achieve a younger, fresher, and more rejuvenated appearance in a natural, gradual way without the need for surgery.

Lanluma is suitable to treat facial scars, create facial volumization, and enhance facial contours. It is a highly advanced cosmetic treatment for collagen stimulation. The continuous evolution of aesthetic medicine has led to the development of this discreet and minimally invasive treatment, enabling patients to achieve natural-looking facial rejuvenation without requiring invasive surgical procedures.

In the 30s, collagen production begins to slow down and eventually becomes dormant. This is an ideal time to start Lanluma to keep the collagen reserves active and to promote skin tightening and facial definition before any major signs of ageing begin to show.

In the 40s and 50s, Lanluma is ideal for long-lasting lines and wrinkle correction. It enhances cheek volume and stimulates collagen in a natural way, reversing early signs of volume loss and contour change.

In the 60s and onwards, Lanluma is ideal to restore facial contours, volume and to correct facial laxity, improve the jaw line, cheeks and temples, and to support areas that have hollowed due to fat and bone loss.

Patients can achieve a full face lifting effect without the need for a major facelift surgery, and the results of the Lanluma treatment could last up to two to five years.

Mr Ayham Al-Ayoubi states: “The demand for non-surgical cosmetic treatments continues to be overwhelming”. According to the latest survey, more than one third of UK people, both men and women, have felt some concerns about their facial appearance in the last few years. Also, facial contouring and volumisation treatments have become one of the most popular areas of non-surgical aesthetic medicine, with a 480% year-on-year growth over the last few years. There is a significant growing demand for non-surgical and non-invasive cosmetic and laser treatments, which has increased by 12% compared with a decrease in cosmetic surgical procedures by 6.6%.

Lanluma is the newest product, which is considered to be the most effective collagen-stimulating injectable that smoothes, reshapes, and sculpts the face with long-lasting, natural results.

How Does Lanluma Work?

Over time, our facial skin gradually loses its full, defined, youthful appearance and becomes thinner, while beginning to wrinkle. Fat tissue, which helps to fill out our face, is lost, causing skin to sag and crease more deeply. For some people, the loss of facial fat tissue and the reduction in skin volume can make their face look hollow, tired, and older than they actually are.

The main ingredient of Lanluma is Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA), which has been used in medicine for more than 40 years and has a very long-standing safety record. The process of Lanluma formulation will induce collagen and fibroblast production by stimulating the body’s natural inflammatory response.

This bio-stimulation helps restore the deep structure of the skin. Once injected, the Lanluma is gradually absorbed by the body, and over time the new, naturally reshaped facial appearance begins to emerge, giving gradual and long-lasting, natural-looking results.

Lanluma stimulates the body’s own collagen production, helping to eliminate lines and deep wrinkles, and creating a refreshed, lifted, and youthful appearance. It achieves this without using any artificial volume – instead, it rebuilds the body’s own collagen matrix to support and fill the facial tissues.

Lanluma is a biocompatible, resorbable injectable product composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It can be categorised as a stimulatory product, creating its effects through encouraging neo-collagenesis when injected. It is a synthetic polymer from the alpha-hydroxy-acid family that is similar to absorbable suture material commonly used in surgery.

Lanluma works to replace lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by Mr Ayham Al-Ayoubi himself at our clinic.

On average, two to four injection sessions are needed over a period of two to eight weeks, with gaps between each session. The number of sessions and the number of injections per session will vary from patient to patient depending on the level of volume loss, facial shape, and desired result.

Lanluma treats most areas of the face that may have deeper lines, wrinkles, folds, or loss of soft tissue and fat, including hollow cheeks, temples, chin, jawline, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the midface. The results can be visible immediately due to the volume of the suspension, however, true improvement begins at around two to four weeks, as the collagen stimulation process starts. In some patients, this may take longer or require additional sessions.

Unlike surgical options, Lanluma provides gradual, natural-looking results through a pain-free, non-invasive procedure. Many patients are able to achieve a full-face lifting effect, which typically lasts up to two to five years.

Because the product is mixed with water for injection, patients may leave the clinic looking instantly volumised. However, this initial effect will fade over two to four days as the water is absorbed, and patients must then wait for the collagen growth phase to begin, typically visible between weeks two and four. Patients should be prepared for the possibility of mild bruising and should avoid taking any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications prior to the injection.

Planning of the Lanluma facial treatment is usually done over a period of two to four weeks. Most patients require two to three sessions conducted at two to four week intervals.

Final results can be observed between six to ten months following the final treatment. Younger patients, especially those in their 20s, often report visible results as early as three to four months following their first session, while more mature patients may need a longer duration and additional sessions.

The natural ageing process results in facial skin becoming loose, less elastic, and losing its firmness. As collagen diminishes, the skin becomes thinner and more prone to wrinkles. People who have lost significant weight also often experience a gaunt and hollow facial appearance. Since the face is typically the first place where fat loss shows, patients may appear older or more tired than they are.

Mr Ayham Al-Ayoubi performs all Lanluma facial treatments himself in our clinic. The number of sessions required, and the number of injections per course, depends on the individual facial anatomy and desired outcomes. Lanluma results typically begin to appear within two to four weeks, but as every patient is different, this timeline may vary.

Patients are individually assessed at the start of their treatment journey. Often, more than one session is necessary. Patients showing signs of severe facial volume loss or atrophy may require four to five sessions for optimal correction and rejuvenation.

Lanluma differs significantly from surgical procedures in that the results it delivers are gradual, allowing for more natural-looking facial enhancement. As the treatment is less invasive and less traumatic than surgery, patients can avoid the downtime associated with surgical procedures. A full facial lifting effect is achievable after several sessions, with the results lasting between two to five years.

Lanluma can also be used effectively to treat acne scars and scars caused by facial trauma. Additionally, the contours of the face, such as the cheekbones and jawline, can be subtly and naturally enhanced to appear more youthful and harmonious.

Lanluma Face Treatment

The key component of Lanluma is Poly-L-lactic acid micro-particles. This biocompatible product is mixed with 4 ml of 1% Lidocaine and 20 ml of sterile water, typically 2–4 hours prior to treatment.

Skin testing is not required beforehand as the product is fully biocompatible.

The procedure takes approximately 20–30 minutes to perform. Patients commonly describe the process as “slightly uncomfortable” rather than painful. To minimise any discomfort, we apply a special anaesthetic cream before the injections.

Lanluma is injected into the dermis and subdermal adipose tissue of the face, targeting areas that have lost volume or definition over time.

After the initial treatment, some patients may notice an immediate improvement in volume and contour. However, it is important to note that this is often due to temporary oedema (swelling), which typically resolves within a few hours to a few days. The true results develop gradually as the Lanluma stimulates a natural foreign-body reaction, encouraging collagen production. This reaction involves an increase in mast cells, macrophages, and lymphocytes, leading to natural tissue regeneration.

The new tissue formed gives a natural-looking result—facial contours become more youthful and defined, without appearing artificial. Cheekbones often appear lifted and more sculpted, while cheeks regain volume, giving the face a refreshed, rounded appearance.

Typically, patients receive two sessions of Lanluma injections spaced 2–4 weeks apart. The breakdown of the Lanluma product begins around 6–9 months post-injection, with full reabsorption occurring around 9–12 months. Despite this, clinical studies have shown that the effects can last for 2–5 years, thanks to the collagen-stimulating properties of the treatment.

As mentioned, the temporary oedema can cause the original facial volume loss to briefly reappear after the swelling subsides. However, Lanluma works over time to gradually correct these contour deficiencies, restoring volume and structure through natural collagen synthesis.

Depending on the treatment area and the desired results, a course of 2–4 sessions may be recommended, spaced 3–4 weeks apart. Following each session, it is essential that patients massage the treated areas twice daily for 5 days to ensure even distribution and optimal results.

Lanluma Face Safety

The science behind Lanluma lies in more than 30 years of use in human medical applications. These applications may include resorbable medical screws and absorbable surgical sutures, dental implants, medical pins, medical plates, dental implants and as vectors for sustained release of bio-active compounds. From absorbable sutures to resorbable screws, it has proven to be biocompatible, well tolerated, and highly effective and safe to use.

Lanluma is officially approved by MHRA in the UK and the FDA in the USA for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss and is used for treating facial lines and wrinkles, making it a safe and reliable product to use.

As Lanluma is a natural product which is bio-compatible and thus resolvable, it is readily tolerated by the human body and is safe to be injected. Poly-L-lactic acid, from the hydroxyl-acid family, is the main component of Lanluma and is a resorbable suture material. The treatment is an effective method for long-term correction of facial volume depreciation, by creating natural results.

‘Safety-investigator’ has initiated clinical studies of Lanluma in human patients, and has indicated that the product is well tolerated by patients, without any adverse side effects.

Lanluma is therefore incredibly safe to use as long as it is used by a qualified, skilled plastic surgeon or cosmetic doctor. Over the last year, Lanluma treatment technique has been modified and refined to produce the very best results whilst minimizing any side effects.

Occasionally, but very rarely, subcutaneous tiny lumps may form. These are not visible to the eye and are only detectable through touch. They typically form at the site of injection.

This side effect is generally due to Lanluma being injected too superficially, causing a lump of product or collagen to form. Nevertheless, a vigorous massage often prevents this side effect from occurring, and patients are fully instructed on how to carry out post-operative care once they leave the clinic.

It is fundamental to understand how the treatment works and where the product can be injected.

Neo-collagenases is stimulated through the injection of Lanluma into areas of treatment. Poly-L-lactic acid belongs to a family of stimulatory components and is entirely bio-compatible.

Lanluma can be injected into the face safely, with the exception of the forehead and adjacent to the upper lip. Areas most commonly injected include the infra malar region, chin, jowls and marionette lines, cheeks, temples, chin, pre-jowl sulcus, and marionette lines. Under eyes and lateral brows are deemed to be more difficult areas of injection and those areas should be avoided.

It can also be safely used for body enhancement and volumization, as well as breast lifting, treating the décolleté, hip enlargement, and buttock enhancement.

Lanluma results studies have indicated improvement in appearance for 3 – 5 years. Typically, 2 – 4 sessions are required. It is usual for treatments to be carried out 2 – 4 weeks apart. The treatment has no downtime.

Immediate rare side effects could include some minimum redness, some tenderness, slight bruising and swelling. All of these immediate side effects could last for few days.

A delayed rare side effect could include the formation of tiny bumps under the skin in the treated area. In the majority of cases, these bumps are not visible and can be felt only when patient press hard on those areas. This rare side effect can develop when the Lanluma product has been injected superficially in the dermis causing a lump of the product or collagen to form, nevertheless, a strong massage immediately after the treatment will prevent these lumps from forming.

Lanluma Face – Patient Expectations

It’s essential that patients understand the scientific mechanism of Lanluma prior to treatment. Stimulatory products such as Lanluma must be administered in sessions and gradually introduced to the body. Lanluma Face is conducted in 2–4 sessions covering a 2–3-month period. Optimum results can be seen after 4–6 months.

The best Lanluma Face treatment can be provided by an experienced plastic surgeon or cosmetic consultant with significant expertise in facial contouring treatments.

Patients who desire immediate improvement may require additional augmentation through the injection of hyaluronic acid, to tide them over for the meantime.

The volume of water used to suspend the Lanluma product is relatively great, therefore patients can leave the clinic feeling facial volume has increased.

Patients should understand that this immediate improvement will subside within 2–4 days, and that they must then wait for collagen stimulation to commence from between week 2–4.

Patients must also appreciate that as the product is injected, bruising may occur. If this is the case, bruising will typically last for 2–4 days. Patients should avoid taking any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications during this period.

Once a patient is happy with the facial volumisation achieved, results can be expected to last up to 2–5 years, according to Mr Ayoubi. To maintain this desired effect, touch-up procedures might be advised for certain individuals. Non-smoking patients have longer-lasting results, as smoking reduces blood supply to the skin and dehydrates the skin throughout the collagen stimulation process.

Injection-related issues such as minor redness and discomfort can be expected immediately after treatment. Some swelling and bruising may also occur but will be temporary and last only for a few days.

Most patients feel comfortable resuming normal daily activities immediately following the Lanluma Face treatment.

Lanluma Vs Dermal Fillers

Lanluma differs from other traditional dermal fillers as it replenishes collagen within the skin. Lanluma stimulates this process gradually, creating long-lasting results which appear entirely natural.  Renewal of one’s own facial collagen to restore facial volume, smooth wrinkles and define contours enables results to last between 2 – 3 years.

The process of collagen stimulation occurs over several months to restore lost facial volume, whereas traditional filler merely offers immediate results. This restored volume created is therefore a patient’s own body’s response to the product. Results appear natural and feel smooth and plump to the touch.

Lanluma does not fill the space and merely form immediate results like traditional fillers, but causes collagen stimulation and growth of fibrous tissue, whilst gradually restoring volume.

Traditional dermal fillers tend to require revision every 6 months, whereas Lanluma acts over a longer period of time and is thus more cost-effective and easier to maintain for a patient.

Advanced Lanluma By Mr Al-Ayoubi

Mr Ayham Al-Ayoubi: “I am so excited and proud to be the very first plastic surgeon in the UK, to introduce Lanluma and offer my patients this revolutionary treatment, which can be used in both the face and the body to give a full face lifting effect, facial volumization, enhanced and enlarged natural looking buttocks with the results lasting 2-5 years”.

Mr Ayoubi has successfully treated female and male patients for acne scars and deep traumatic scars on the face and body through injecting Lanluma in sessions. Lanluma can also be injected to improve the appearance of a décolletage (wrinkly wall of chest) in addition to reversing signs of ageing on the hands.

Patients travel from all over the UK and from around the world to have Mr Ayham Al-Ayoubi perform Lanluma treatment at the London Medical and Aesthetic Clinic, which is one of the leading training centres for Lanluma treatment in the UK and Europe.
